The concert is a highlight of the OrganPoint series, offering the audience the opportunity to encounter not only two exceptional artists, but also a musical form that is rarely heard in such an intense and refined setting.

The joint concert of world-renowned tenor José Cura and Szamosi Szabolcs explores a wide spectrum of musical expression, from intimate, meditative moments to passages of dramatic power. The special feature of the evening is the encounter between the human voice and the organ, evoking both sacred depth and operatic passion. The structure of the program offers a rich emotional journey, where pure beauty and virtuosic power complement each other to create an uplifting concert experience.

A world star always seeking new paths

The name José Cura is known worldwide among opera lovers. The Argentine tenor has left a lasting mark not only as a singer, but also as a conductor and stage director. Throughout his career, he has performed in the world’s leading opera houses, yet he has always preserved the passion and experimental spirit that drive him toward new musical forms and spaces.

His church concerts are especially close to his heart: in these intimate yet monumental spaces, voice and music can be expressed in a more direct and personal way. In Cura’s interpretation, the drama of opera and the elevated nature of sacred music form a harmonious unity.

The master of the organ – Szabolcs Szamosi

Liszt Prize-winning organist Szabolcs Szamosi is synonymous with high-quality yet audience-friendly organ performance. His artistry brings together tradition and openness: alongside the classical repertoire, his concerts often feature new interpretations and exciting arrangements.

The organ, often referred to as the “queen of instruments,” is a unique partner for a tenor. In Szamosi’s playing, the instrument does not merely accompany but enters into an equal dialogue with the human voice – enriching, shaping, and fully expanding the musical experience.

Church spaces – where music sounds differently

The venues of the concert series – the iconic churches of Szombathely, Esztergom, Békéscsaba, and Debrecen – create a unique atmosphere in their own right. In these spaces, sound is not only heard but almost physically experienced: the music fills the space, resonates from the walls, and gains an entirely new dimension.

It is here that the encounter between tenor and organ becomes truly complete – both monumental and intimate at the same time.
