Soon celebrating its quarter-century anniversary, the Talamba Percussion Ensemble, which originally formed from a group of university friends, continues to break musical boundaries. Their genre-blending — or as they like to put it, "genre-reconciling" — approach consistently delivers striking performances: alongside reimagined classical masterpieces, they embrace influences from folk music to jazz. Vivaldi's The Four Seasons is one of the most iconic classical compositions in the world. We've heard it in countless interpretations, and surely will hear many more — but the adventure Talamba now invites us on is undeniably a unique event in this lineage.
They selected one movement from each season of Vivaldi’s work to reinterpret, and then took it a step further: they paired each piece with one of their own original compositions that best matches its mood and character — while giving the original setting a distinctly Talamba twist.
The idea of "doubling" The Four Seasons first emerged during the early days of the pandemic, a time when not only performances but even rehearsals came to a halt. Adapting Vivaldi’s 1725 violin and string orchestra masterpiece to their own percussive world had long been a dream — and during the lockdown, they finally began to bring it to life.
Talamba’s Summer takes us to the seashore, while Autumn is paired with a folk melody. The virtuoso rhythms of Winter capture the season’s very essence, and Spring follows the journey of a single drop of water — from birth all the way to the ocean.
We welcome all our guests with a glass of wine to make the evening even more memorable.
