A Con Spirito Church Music Festival's Featured Concert
Would you like to hear a genuinely famous and exceptional choir? Here's your chance!
The Westminster Cathedral Choir is regarded as one of the world's finest choirs. Since its foundation in 1901, it has held a unique and enviable position at the forefront of English church music, mainly due to the pioneering work of its first Master of Music, Sir Richard Terry, who revived the great works of English and continental Renaissance composers. This innovative approach was necessary because, although the Westminster Abbey Choir had been operating at a high standard for centuries, it sang according to Anglican rites, which also defined its repertoire. Terry established a Catholic ensemble focusing on Catholic church music.
The choir continues these traditions today and remains the only Catholic cathedral choir worldwide to sing daily Mass and Vespers. Beyond their liturgical duties, the choir is recognised in the international concert scene and has received numerous accolades for their recordings. In 1998, they were awarded the Gramophone Award for "Best Choral Recording of the Year" and "Recording of the Year" for their performances of Frank Martin's Mass and Pizzetti's Requiem.
The choir is also known for commissioning and performing new works. They regularly appear on radio and television, and when their busy liturgical schedule permits, they take their music to audiences worldwide. This year, they are traveling over a thousand kilometers to fill Hungarian cathedrals with their voices. Don't miss the opportunity to experience their performance!
